7 ways human behavior impacts canine behavior.
See FB post with graphics and breakdown of each of the 7 ways here.
Life approach.
Energy.
Unhealed parts.
Accountability and responsibility.
Resistance to change.
Lack of boundaries.
Ego.
This is, oftentimes, the most challenging part of "dog training."
For many reasons.
As I've written many times before, no one is exempt from trauma.
No human, no dog, no animal.
We all have some level of it steering our ships.
Remember, trauma isn't the event or circumstance.
It's not what happened.
It's the *impact* and lingering effects of what happened.
How it was internalized by the individual.
This is expressed in multiple ways...
🔎 our approach to life,
🔎 how (and if) we communicate,
🔎 the energy we bring into each space,
🔎 the beliefs adopt,
🔎 choices we make,
🔎 our perceptions and filters,
🔎 our language,
🔎 actions we take or don't take,
🔎 level of accountability and responsibility,
🔎 level of commitment,
🔎 priorities,
🔎 values and principles,
...and so on.
It's all information.
Just like canine behavior.
Many focus on the "doing" part with their dogs.
Sit.
Down.
Fetch.
Come.
Paw.
Jump.
Etc.
Obedience.
Agility.
And other task-oriented, performance-based things.
But not the *being* part.
This is also something we humans aren't typically skilled at.
We're great at the "doing."
Not so great at the "being."
And our dogs are taking our cues.
Many want help, but resist receiving it.
They resist the changes their dogs are asking them to make by way of behavior.
Dogs are suffering everywhere because of human misinterpretation and misunderstanding of canine behavior.
...and there's no curiosity.
Only judgment, assumption, story-making (to fill in the blanks and come up with SOME sort of an explanation - even if it's not based on truth, fact, or reality), and a "fix this" mentality. This, and they want it to cost little to nothing with immediate results and require no effort.
We've got to shift our focus here and ask better questions.
What is this behavior trying to tell me?
What may be in excess?
What's lacking?
What am I missing?
Right now, the focus is either on the creation or complete annihilation of certain behaviors---- and the blame is always on the dog.
No attempt to extract the information contained within it.
This is, very much, the same with humans and human behavior.
The disruptions we see in the world today have been created and caused by us.
If we want to see transformation, healing, and change, we must start with ourselves.
We are always sharing information.
And our dogs are interpreting their level of security, safety, and well-being on this.
