Buried within each of us is who we truly are, in essence and in spirit.

In a world where we’re constantly bombarded with messages that in order for us to “be happy” or “be enough”, we need to look a certain way and have certain things. Achieve certain goals and hold certain titles. Have a certain sized bank account, car and home.

Beauty. Happiness. Success. Fulfillment. It’s all defined for us, and if we fall short, we fail. In comes the guilt. Shame. Discredit. Embarrassment. Insecurity. All because we didn’t measure up to our culture and society’s definition of who it suggests we should be.

Life isn’t so much about discovery as it is rediscovery. Peeling back the layers of conditioning and assumption, so we can reconnect to who it is we already are. It’s a pilgrimage back to self.

Within each of us lies an incredibly strong, courageous, powerful, intelligent, intuitive, creative, loving, resilient and remarkable spirit. If there’s a part of you that wonders what your “purpose” in life is, it’s to remember this. To call upon and live through it. Think back to who you were and what you spent your time doing when you were a child. A lesser influenced, lesser conditioned, more authentic and true version of yourself. What were you drawn to? What did you engage in where time simply escaped from you? What made you feel the most alive? Whatever it was, invite it back into your life. It’s a great clue as to who you truly are.

We’re all unique. Each of us born with a special sauce only we have.

Take a tip from Dog. Spend your days digging. Dig and sift through all the conditioning, the layers of false beliefs. Yes, it will take time. Yes, it will take effort. Yes, it may drudge up some suppressed stuff; but don’t let it deter you from your end goal.

Keeping digging, and you’ll find your buried treasure. It’ll be totally worth it in the end.
